Triple 0 Six Hotel Mirissa, Sri Lanka

Triple o Six hotel is one of the only five star hotel at Mirissa beach, but is it really ??

Let's start with the hotel, it looks amazing from the road only 18 rooms so small and intimate, it's a modern new building with a beautiful pool in the front of the reception. The restaurant over looks the street and is separated by the entrance stairs. The restaurant is very quiet I think we were the only people to eat there the night we arrived. Breakfast was just ok, standard hotel selection with Baine-Mare

The juice was cordial which is totally wrong , we decided it was better to skip brekkie and go for a early lunch.

The room was outstanding, good size room, massive uber king bed, bathroom was large massive walk in shower, the bathroom had glass walls looking back into the room. The hotel advertises ocean views (our room stated ocean view) however that might have been when the hotel opened but now the plants and trees have grown and you at best get ocean glimpse.

The hotel is 1 km from Mirissa beach which is a easy walk or tuk tuk ride, the beach across the road from the hotel is rocky and very small beach sand to lay on. Mirissa beach 1 km away is stunning pure soft white sand good surf and the water temperature in march was warm so you could just walk straight in. The beach has restaurants and bars lining the beach, they all have sun lounges and umbrellas to use for free, but it's always good to buy food or drinks to cover the free lounges.

Zephyr is awesome for lunch and dinner and you dine on the beach, and xxxxxx served the best calamari it's a must!!

We found a beautiful outlook opposite the hotel which overlooked Marisa beach and the ocean. The area was accessible from the Buddhist monks temple opposite the hotel, it was just stunning lined with coconut trees and gravel, not many people know of it and was the perfect place to watch the sunset with a G&T.

What let's the hotel down is the staff, they lack training in basic hospitality. No one on the reception desk was trained in booking tourist attractions, and when you asked them to do something they would say yes sir can I get back to you and never did. They are very nice and smiling they just need training on how to help the customers. We asked on two occasions to make a booking at local restaurants and they didn't have the phone numbers which I had to look up on the internet for them, that information they should have or access on the internet. Then they would call and hand the phone over! Really can't you make the booking! The phone in the room does not allow you to call an outside number.

The staff are consistently on their mobile phones texting or playing games.

If you wanted lunch or drinks by the pool you had to go into the restaurant where the staff are just sitting at tables doing nothing, train your staff to go around the pool every 15 min asking if anyone wants drinks or food, your sales will skyrocket!

It sounds harsh, but that's the experience we had. It's a good hotel that could be amazing. Get me over to train your staff for three weeks and see your customer satisfaction soar.

Would I stay there again? Yes, as it's the most modern and comfortable hotel in the area, they just need to train the staff and enforce some standards.
